Hotel Marqués de Riscal, A Luxury Collection Hotel

At the heart of the Marqués de Riscal City of Wine stands the jewel in the crown of the Marriot International hotel chain: the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, A Luxury Collection Hotel. Designed by Frank O. Gehry, one of the world’s top architects, responsible, among other major works, for the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, the hotel combines the most deeply rooted winemaking tradition with an avant-garde design, luxury and the most advanced technology of the 21^st century.

 Inaugurated on 10 October 2006, it stands out for its spectacular forms and skyline. This unique building contrasts elegantly with the headquarters of the wineries, a building dating from 1858 and designed by the architect Ricardo Bellsola, situated between the vineyards and the medieval town of Elciego, in the centre of the Rioja Alavesa.

It offers all the luxury standards and services that you would expect from a hotel with The Luxury Collection brand, the Marriot International chain, and with the personal stamp of Frank Gehry: the titanium and steel of the roofing panels and the asymmetry of the wall and floor tiles. The 61 luxury bedrooms, 10 of them suites, split between two buildings linked by a spectacular raised walkway, are all different and unique, both in their forms and for their outlook.

Worthy of special note are the views to be enjoyed from the vantage point of the VIP lounge, the best of two regions, towards La Rioja in one direction and the Basque Country in the other. Two worlds: that of wine and of gastronomy, both of the highest order, come together at this exact point. Anyone who wants to see for themselves can do so in the hotel’s Fine Dining Restaurant, recognised by a Michelin star, by enjoying the signature dishes of our gastronomic adviser, Francis Paniego. The hotel also offers the  Restaurante 1860 Tradición and the Vinoteca&Bistró. Both the most innovative creations and the more traditional recipes are interpreted with a combination of quality, tradition and innovation.

The exclusive interior design project, carried out by Gehry himself, and with design features by Alvar Aalto and B&B, among others, offers a genuinely avant-garde vision thanks to its forms, colours, and materials.
